9 Things You Didn’t Know You Could Wash in the Dishwasher

1. Appliance Knobs

You'd never allow your appliance knobs get this filthy, but if you ever have to clean up someone else's messes, pop those knobs off and put them in the dishwasher.

2. Terra Cotta Pots

Terra-cotta pots and saucers can be gently washed in the dishwasher. This prepares them for your new plantings.

3. Safety Glasses

Put your safety glasses in the top rack of the dishwasher after a dirty project. Smudges, sunblock, and sweat remove easily. Check out our top DIY safety gear for all DIYers.

4. Combs

Plastic hair tools, such as combs, should be washed in the dishwasher's silverware tray. Solid plastic brushes can also be washed in a dishwasher.

5. Dirty Dust Pan

You can, of course, wipe it down or hose it down, but you can also put it in the dishwasher. This is especially useful after sweeping up anything sticky or gooey.

6. Microwave Turntable

To get it squeaky clean, use your microwave turntable like a standard glass dinner plate and set it in the bottom rack of your dishwasher.

7. Vent Grilles

You can brush or vacuum vent grilles, but the easiest way to properly clean them is to put them in the dishwasher. Most grilles simply pop out or are held in place by a couple of screws.

8. Plastic Car Accessories

Typically, you can easily remove these plastic inserts, run them through a moderate cycle, and they will look brand new.

9. Legos

Toys for children are a breeding ground for germs. A dishwasher is ideal for disinfecting washable toys such as Legos.
